How to Decorate in a Victorian Era Theme

If the Victorian-era style of decorating were to be described in one word it would be lavish. When decorating a room or your entire home using this style the more decorative and accessorized it is, the closer you are to emulating the Victorian era. The look will be elaborate, lush and impressive. Does this Spark an idea?

    Replace your window treatments with the sheers as the first layer and then hang the velveteen drapes arranging the tassel tie-backs to hold them on each side. Hang the window scarf over the top of both using the brass drapery hooks. Tuck the scarf behind the decorative part of the hooks.

    Place the coffee table, side tables, couch and chairs in the room, using the accent tables liberally. Place doilies on the tables and on the backs of the couch and chairs. Put the small table lamps on the accent tables. Place the floor lamps in corners of the room so they create a warm glow.

    Put the pastoral pictures in the gilt-look frames and arrange them on the walls. Hang them where the glow from the lamps will accent them and imitate the look of paintings. Place candleholders and candles on the side tables, coffee table and accent tables.

    Place area rugs on your floors. Arrange them so the furniture does not cover them. Add the dried flower arrangements in vases to the room. Hang the Boston ferns and the ivy or place them on accent tables.
