Purple Wedding Reception Ideas

Purple Wedding Reception Ideas

Purple can bring drama to a wedding reception. From royal purple to lighter shades like lavender, having a purple reception can allow you several options, especially when it comes to certain elements. Elements like purple flowers are widely available and can add elegance or a modern twist to a wedding reception.

Deep Purples

Accent your wedding with deep purples, creams and white. Focus on the royal purple shade for details like the reception tablecloths. Accent the tables with centerpieces of white orchid buds and deep purple floating candles or a single deep purple orchid plant. Serve a special dessert like truffles with purple flowers piped onto them. Decorate the cake with a bouquet of dark purple and light cream flowers, with a purple ribbon tied to it, resting on top of the cake. Or, have simple purple ribbon borders placed around each tier of the cake. Place mini flower pots full of small purple flowers. These can double as centerpieces and wedding favors.

Lighter Shades

Use mauve tablecloths for the reception tables. Accent with dark brown tablecloths or place mats. Place a brown or clear vase in the center of the table and fill with lighter purple flowers with accents of green. Use flowering oregano, lavender roses and even lilac. Have the cake mirror the colors of lilac and lavender with a few sugar flowers in this color or a lavender border around the tiers. Use a light purple or white light to light up the dance floor. Hand out bundles of lavender attached to a small card with the guest's name and table number on it before they walk into the reception.

Contrast

Contrast a purple color with green. If you want to have your wedding in deep purple, contrast with almost a lime green. If you're thinking of a more lighter shade of purple, a lighter lime shade of green can be a good contrast. Set up centerpiece bouquets of deep purple flowers and bright green hydrangeas. Make a cake similar to the bouquets at the centers of each table. Have one tier of the cake be adorned with the hydrangeas. Have the next tier down be adorned with the purple flowers and so on. Hand out candy favors consisting of purple and green chocolate candy, taffy and lollipops. Or set up a candy bar with these items.
